Washington is justly proud of its school, it is a mixed sex Primary for age range 5-10 years and there are approximately 90 pupils to date. The school had its OFSTED inspection in June 2007 with exceptional results, ganing grade 1 in all areas. The report stated: “This is an outstanding school because standards are high at the end of key stage 1 and by the time the pupils leave the school at the end of year 5. Pupils make excellent progress during their time at the school.” It is recorded that there was a schoolmaster in Washington in 1579, but apparently ‘no fit pupils’! St. Mary’s C.E. school, but then the new senior school was completed at Thakeham and the 11+ children were transferred there.
